Here you will find some helpful suggestions for being a successful online learner and enjoy the experience!

Following is a list of strategies and personal study habits for online learning.  Scroll down for some articles and additional information.

1. Time Management - make a schedule to follow each day with times to study, take breaks, and check in with your instructor (you may already have been given these times when you will meet using a video conferencing program.  If your school uses a Learning Management System (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Blackboard, Canvas etc.) also include time to work on the LMS site in your daily schedule.

2.  Good Communication Skills - for online, this will be mainly in writing.  When you communicate with others, make sure to use Netiquette (that means being polite and careful with  your words).  Here are some guidelines, especially for emails and posting in discussion forums: Netiquette Guidelines

3.  Have a dedicated study area - a place where you can work that is quiet and where you will not be interrupted

4. Take responsibility for your learning - stay positive and follow your teacher's guidance and instructions; your success depends on you (and you can do it!)

5. Ask for help - all questions are important but remember that if you need to ask for help by posting to a discussion forum, you may not get an immediate response.  If you need an immediate response, use the contact information your teacher has provided.  Other places to go for help (depending upon are the Internet, a classmate, etc.

6. Keep up your motivation to learn - online learning allows you more time to read, respond to questions, complete assignments, seek more information, be creative, show what you have learned in creative ways.  So complete assignments and if you are interested in a topic, find out more about it online.

7. Take some "me" time  away from the computer - stretch, exercise, go outside, get something to eat and/or drink, talk to a friend but do take a health (mental and physical) break.
